Review By: Mike Pocock

Although I already knew that Christianity, and especially evangelical Christianity, was spreading rapidly outside the West, Jenkins documented that trend in a very readable and compelling fashion. Even more significant, he showed that part of the reason for this growth in “the Global South” as he calls it, is that Christianity was not a Western religion when it started, and is translatable into any culture today. In other words, Jenkins strips away any objection to Christianity which rests on its being a “Western Religion” or simply the spiritual arm of western imperialism. The truth is, the Gospel changes lives in any age and context where it is believed. Jenkins has written articles since The Next Christendom, like “Reading the Bible in the Global South,” (International Bulletin of Missionary Research, April, 2006). All of Jenkins’ works on global Christianity are an eye opening challenge.
